Your Custom GPT stops working on December 11.
Save it this week so you don't lose your work.
Then move it to a new home.
🎯 What you'll be able to do
💡 What's happening
OpenAI is shutting down Custom GPTs.
On December 11, 2026, they all stop working.
OpenAI's replacement is called a plugin.
- Already true: you can't make a new GPT on a personal ChatGPT account.
- October 26, 2026 (planned): no one can make new GPTs.
- December 11, 2026: all Custom GPTs stop working.
Your old chats with a GPT stay in your account.
The GPT itself won't answer anymore.
Your instructions and your files can move with you.
What happens if I use OpenAI's plugin?
OpenAI can turn your GPT into a plugin.
Go to My GPTs, open your GPT, and pick Migrate (the name may change).
What moves:
- Your instructions
- Your files
- The apps you connected
What doesn't move:
- Actions (when your GPT talks to another tool, like Zapier). You'll set these up again.
- Who can use it. The plugin starts private, even if your GPT was public.
A plugin is private until you share it again.
Test it before you trust it.
A plugin can answer differently than your old GPT.
🧳 Guided Move
Step 1: Save your GPT
Do this for every GPT you want to keep.
Menus change often. Steps checked October 2026.
Go to My GPTs → Edit → Configure.
- Copy its name, description, instructions and conversation starters into a doc.
- Find the original files on your computer or Drive.
- Write down any actions or apps it uses.
- Write down where you shared its link.
- Save 5 to 10 test questions and the answers you get today.
✅ It worked if you could rebuild the GPT from your doc and files.
Step 2: Pick its new home
Ask one question: who uses it?
| Who uses it | New home |
|---|---|
| Just you or your team | Claude Project or ChatGPT plugin |
| Clients or the public | Platform made for bots (Chipp, Delphi...) |
| Clients, and you want to own it | Your own app on Replit |
Just you or your team? Pick Claude or ChatGPT, whichever you already use.
✅ It worked if each GPT has a new home picked.
Step 3: Move it
Open the new home you picked.
Claude Project
A Claude Project is a space with its own instructions and files.
It works a lot like a Custom GPT.
- In Claude, go to Projects → New project.
- In a new chat, paste the Claude migration prompt (at the bottom of this page), then everything you saved in Step 1.
- Paste the name, description and instructions Claude gives you into the project.
- Upload the files Claude lists.
- Ask your test questions and compare them with Claude's test plan.
✅ It worked if your test questions get good answers.
ChatGPT plugin
Pick this if you and your team use ChatGPT.
After you move it, you can't change the old GPT.
- Go to My GPTs, open the GPT and pick Migrate (the name may change).
- Ask your test questions.
- Fix anything that changed.
- Share it again with your team.
Don't see Migrate?
It isn't ready for your account yet, so check back later.
✅ It worked if your team can open the plugin.
Platform made for bots
Pick this if clients use your GPT.
These platforms give your clients their own link.
Most cost money each month.
| Platform | Good for | Starts at |
|---|---|---|
| Delphi | A bot that sounds like you | Free to try, then from $79 a month |
| Chipp | Many bots for your business | $299 a month, plus usage |
| CustomGPT.ai | Easy setup | $99 a month for 1,000 questions |
| Botpress | Bots on WhatsApp | Free to try, then from $150 a month |
🚚 How to move it
- Make an account on the platform you picked.
- In Claude or ChatGPT, paste the Platform migration prompt (at the bottom of this page), then everything you saved in Step 1.
- Copy each piece it gives you into the platform.
- Ask your test questions.
- Set who can use it, publish it and copy the new link.
✅ It worked if a client opens the new link and gets a good answer.
Your own app on Replit
Pick this if you want to own it all.
Replit's paid plans start at $20 a month.
- Go to replit.com and start a new app.
- Paste this line, then add your files and the pieces from the Platform migration prompt (at the bottom of this page):
I want to rebuild my ChatGPT Custom GPT as an app. Here are its instructions and files. What would be the best next step? - Follow the steps Replit gives you.
- Ask your test questions.
- Publish it and copy the new link.
Pick a small AI model to keep the bill low.
✅ It worked if a client opens the new link and gets a good answer.
Last: swap your old links.
Put the new link everywhere the old one was: your website, emails and course pages.
Tell people before December 11.
✅ It worked if no page you own still links to your old GPT.
💰 More about prices
Some plans cost the same each month.
Others charge more when more people chat.
"Usage" means you pay for each answer the bot writes.
Smaller AI models cost less than big ones.
Try a small one first, and keep it if it passes your test questions.

TUB is moving CalChat too
A plugin starts private and only works in ChatGPT, and CalChat serves thousands of members, many outside ChatGPT.
So TUB is moving it to a platform made for bots.
✋ Common questions
How long does it take?
About 30 to 45 minutes per GPT.
Will I lose my old chats?
No, OpenAI says they stay in your account.
To keep a copy, go to Settings → Data controls → Export data in ChatGPT.
Can I keep using my GPT until then?
Yes, until December 11.
Do I have to pay?
A Claude Project works on Claude's free plan.
Platforms for clients cost money each month.
Why is OpenAI doing this?
Callan's guess: running free GPTs for millions of people costs OpenAI a lot.
📋 Use these prompts to move your GPT
Paste a prompt into a new chat, then paste everything you saved in Step 1 under it.
Claude migration prompt: full prompt
I'm moving my ChatGPT Custom GPT into a Claude Project. Help me rebuild it so it works as well as before, or better.
Below I'll paste what I saved from my GPT:
- Its name and description
- Its instructions
- Its conversation starters
- The names of its knowledge files
- Any actions or connected apps it used
- 5 to 10 test questions, with the answers my GPT gave
If anything is missing, ask me for it before you start. Ask one question at a time.
Then give me these 5 things, in this order:
1. PROJECT NAME AND DESCRIPTION
A short name and a one-line description I can paste into the new project.
2. PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS
Rewrite my GPT's instructions for a Claude Project.
- Keep every rule, step, example and tone note. Don't drop anything.
- Remove anything that only works in ChatGPT (actions, DALL-E, browsing, GPT Store wording).
- Turn my conversation starters into a short "How to start" section.
- Tell Claude to use the project files when it answers.
- Put the final instructions in one block I can copy.
3. FILES TO UPLOAD
List the files I should upload to the project. Flag any that look outdated or repeated.
4. WHAT I NEED TO REBUILD
For every action or app my GPT used, tell me:
- what it did
- whether a Claude connector can do it, and which one
- if not, a simple workaround
5. TEST PLAN
Use my test questions. For each one, tell me what a good answer should include, so I can compare the new project with my old GPT.
Keep everything in plain, simple words.

For a platform made for bots or your own app on Replit. Use it in Claude or ChatGPT, with web search on.
I'm moving my ChatGPT Custom GPT to [platform name, for example Delphi, Chipp, CustomGPT.ai, Botpress or a Replit app]. My clients or the public use it. Help me rebuild it there.
Below I'll paste what I saved from my GPT:
- Its name and description
- Its instructions
- Its conversation starters
- The names of its knowledge files
- Any actions or connected apps it used
- Who uses it and how they get to it (for example a link on my website, or paid members only)
- 5 to 10 test questions, with the answers my GPT gave
If anything is missing, ask me for it before you start. Ask one question at a time.
First, look up how [platform name] sets up a bot today: where the instructions, files, welcome message and access settings go. If you can't look it up, tell me, and tell me what to check in its help center. Never guess a menu name.
Then give me these 7 things, in this order:
1. BOT SETUP
A name, a one-line description, a welcome message and 3 or 4 starter questions.
2. INSTRUCTIONS
Rewrite my GPT's instructions for [platform name].
- Keep every rule, step, example and tone note. Don't drop anything.
- Remove anything that only works in ChatGPT.
- Add what the bot should do when it doesn't know an answer (say so, and tell people how to reach me).
- Tell it to stay on my topic and never share private information.
- Put the final instructions in one block I can copy.
3. FILES TO UPLOAD
List the files to upload. Flag any that look outdated or repeated, and any with private or client information that shouldn't go into a public bot.
4. WHAT I NEED TO REBUILD
For every action or app my GPT used, tell me:
- what it did
- whether [platform name] has a built-in integration for it
- if not, a simple workaround (for example Zapier or a form)
5. WHO CAN USE IT
Tell me how to set access the way I need (a public link, a login, or paid members only), and which settings to check.
6. TEST PLAN
Use my test questions. For each one, tell me what a good answer should include.
7. LAUNCH CHECKLIST
List where to swap my old GPT link, and write a short message I can send to tell people about the new link.
Keep everything in plain, simple words.

Waiting until December
New homes need a few days of testing.
Fix: save your GPT this month.
Thinking clients can still use the plugin
The plugin starts private.
Fix: if clients use it, pick a platform made for bots.
Skipping the test questions
The new home can answer differently.
Fix: ask your test questions before you share it.
